Wall Of Fame

The Township of Stone Mills recognizes residents that have made a valued contribution to their community in the field of sports or sports related activities through the Wall of Fame Award Program, which is granted in the second year of each term of Council.

Persons may be recognized within four specific categories being: Builders, Sponsors, Volunteers and/or Participants. Nominees shall have made a significant contribution to sports in at least two of these categories. The nominee may be either living or deceased and any person is eligible, however a person may be recognized for the award only once.

Written nominataions may be sumitted to the Township of Stone Mills which describe why a person should be recognized on the Wall of Fame. Nominations shall be submitted on the Nomination Form and identify the categories applicable to the nominee together with a $25.00 nomination fee and an 8” X 10” black and white photograph of the nominee. The fee and photograph for any person nominated but not awarded by the Township of Stone Mills, will be returned to the person submitting the nomination.

A selection committee will be appointed by Council in the period leading up to the awards. The selection committee will review all nominations and based upon criteria to be established by the selection committee, select those persons that will be recognized on the Wall of Fame. No more than four persons will be inducted at any given time.

A time for the award presentations will be selected by the Committee and persons that have been nominated and persons that nominated the nominee will be invited to the awards ceremony to be held at the Stone Mills Recreation Centre. The awards ceremony will be followed by an informal social gathering.

Entry fees are not applicable to this event and all costs for the award ceremony and reception are the responsibility of the Township of Stone Mills.

Nominations must be submitted on the Nomination Form and received by the Township of Stone Mills after November 1st but not later than January 31st in the year in which the award is to be provided.  Nominations must be delivered to:

The actual Wall of Fame is located within the Stone Mills Recreation Centre at 713 Addington Street in Tamworth and commemorates and recognizes the importance of sports in our community. Persons visiting the Recreation Centre are invited to take the time to view the persons that have been recognized on the Wall Of Fame.

Nominations by fax or email cannot be accepted.

Volunteer Of Year Awards

The Township of Stone Mills Volunteer Of The Year Award Program is a community recognition program, coordinated and sponsored every fourth year by the Township of Stone Mills. The purpose of these awards is to recognize worthy individuals in the Township of Stone Mills for their consistent contributions to the overall quality of life in the Township of Stone Mills.

Awards will be presented for excellence in leadership or volunteering in one or more of the following areas of consideration:
Education
General Volunteerism
Community Enhancement
Cultural Enrichment
Rural Contribution
Senior Volunteerism
Sports
Environmental Improvements
Entrepreneurship
 
Nominations will be open to persons who qualify pursuant to one of the following award categories:
Volunteer Youth Of The Year (Pesons under the age of 19 at the time the award is being presented)
Volunteer Group Of The Year (Persons whose acts of volunteerism have been through the efforts of an association of 2 or more persons)
Volunteer Senior Of The Year (persons who are over the age of 60 at the time the award is being presented)
Volunteer Citizen Of The Year (persons between the ages of 19 and 60 at the time the award is being presented)
 

One award will be presented for each category where nominations have been received, and a nominee has been selected by the Selection Committee.  An individual or group is only eligible to receive an award once for each category. All presentations will be provided at a special reception at the Township Office in Centreville by Members of the current Council.  Families and friends are invited to attend the social event following the presentations.  All qualifying nominees must reside within the Township of Stone Mills.

Nominations will be accepted following November 1 and must be received no later than January 31 in the year which the award is to be presented.
