Our Government

The Corporation of The Township of Stone Mills is governed by an elected Council consisting of a Reeve, Deputy Reeve and five Council members who serve a four-year term.

The Province of Ontario has established the Ontario Municipal Act, which sets the governing rules for Ontario municipalities. The Act. recognizes municipalities as a responsible and accountable level of government and gives municipalities broad powers to pass bylaws and govern within their jurisdiction. The act also outlines requirements for municipalities including:

  • practices and procedures
  • accountability and transparency
  • finance

Township of Stone Mills offers a range of municipal services including fire protection, recreational facilities and programs and construction and maintenance of the municipal infrastructure.
